RIVERS, PONDS AND MEADOWS

The riverbed of the Odra at the confluence with the Lučina and Opava rivers in Ostrava is regulated and deforested. Nevertheless, the riverbeds are covered with alluvial gravel and reedbeds. Japanese knotweed is often found on the banks. River reedbeds are well developed in the core of the Poodří landscape, where they naturally change into vegetation of shrubby willows. Preserved oxbow-lakes, pools and pond systems are suitable habitats for aquatic flora and fauna of standing waters.

The meadows in the Odra River Basin represent substitute communities replacing former floodplain forests.
