San’nin kanjo (三人官女)—three court ladies from a hina ningyō set. The ladies carry ceremonial objects associated with serving sake at weddings: a festive shimadai (島台) decoration, a hisage (提子) vessel and a long-handled nagae-no-chōshi (長柄銚子) vessel.
The dolls were not intended as everyday toys. They formed part of the festive display for Hinamatsuri, the Doll Festival, during which the entire miniature imperial court briefly comes to life each year.
